Maria Dulcissima (1891-1927), also known as Helena Hoffmann, was a Dominican tertiary mystic who dedicated her life to prayer, penance, and service to others.
She is venerated for her mystical experiences, including visions of Jesus and Mary, as well as for her profound piety and self-sacrifice.
Biography
- Maria Dulcissima was born on August 16, 1891, in Ratibor (now Racibórz) in Upper Silesia. From her youth, she stood out for her piety and sensitivity to the needs of others.
2. Religious Life
At the age of 26, she joined the Third Order of Dominicans (as a tertiary), taking the name Dulcissima, which means “most gentle.” She made religious vows and devoted herself to prayer and service to the needy.
3. Mystical Experiences
Maria Dulcissima experienced many mystical visions and ecstasies. She had numerous apparitions of Jesus and Mary, as well as mystical experiences in which she participated in Christ’s sufferings. Her mysticism attracted the attention of many faithful who sought her support and prayers.
4. Illness and Death
For most of her life, Maria Dulcissima suffered from various illnesses, which she endured with extraordinary patience and dedication. She died on May 8, 1927, in Brzezie nad Odrą (now a district of Racibórz).

In 1999, the beatification process for Maria Dulcissima began. Her life and mystical experiences were subjected to detailed examination by the Catholic Church.
